NEW COMMIT: Scottsdale, Az. native Erica Esterly has announced her verbal commitment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and will suit up for the Black Knights as a member of the class of 2024.

Esterly does her club swimming with Scottsdale Aquatic Club and recorded a pair of best times this past summer at Des Moines Futures. Last winter, she finished ninth in the 200 fly at the Arizona Senior Open before going on to take fourth in that event with five additional top-20 finishes at Rochester Sectionals. A current senior at Pinnacle High School, Esterly took 10th in the 500 free and 13th in the 100 fly at the Arizona DI State Championships during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my education and athletic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point. The incredible team environment, the great coaching staff, and the opportunity to receive a great education and become an officer in the US Army led me to make this decision. I can’t wait to become a Black Knight and contribute to this outstanding team. Thank you to all the coaches, teammates and friends who helped me achieve this dream. GO ARMY!!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:55.47
  • 500 free – 5:03.26
  • 1000 free – 10:31.31
  • 1650 free – 17:27.35
  • 200 fly – 2:05.66

Esterly will add valuable freestyle and butterfly depth to Army’s lineup when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2020. She would’ve placed top-15 in the mile as well as scored in the B-final of the 200 fly at the 2019 Patriot League Championships where Army finished second overall in the team standings.
