Futures Qualifier Annie Gilligan Stays In-State, Verbals to Iowa State for 2027

NEW COMMIT: Iowa State University has picked up a verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from in-state standout Annie Gilligan. Gilligan is a native of Dubuque, Iowa, and specializes in sprint freestyle and backstroke.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am extremely excited and grateful to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Iowa State University! I want to thank my family, coaches, and friends for supporting me along this journey! Thank you to coaches Matt and Morgan for this opportunity! Go Cyclones!”

A Futures qualifier, Gilligan does her club swimming with the Dubuque Area Swimmin’ Hurricanes. She earned six best times at the Iowa Long Course Championships last summer after finaling in five events at Rochester Sectionals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.52
  • 100 free – 51.21
  • 200 free – 1:50.40
  • 100 back – 56.72

Currently a junior at Dubuque Senior High School, Gilligan placed second in the 200 free and eighth in the 100 back at the 2025 Iowa State Championship after securing respective first and second-place finishes in those events at the regional meet the week prior. She raced to second in both of those events at the state meet as a sophomore in 2024.

Gilligan will make an immediate impact for the Cyclones. Her top 200 free time would’ve ranked first in their lineup last year while her best 100 free time would’ve been second and her fastest 50 free time would’ve ranked third.
