NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Angela Gambardella of North Haven, Conn. as opted to stay in-state for her college career and has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Connecticut beginning in the fall of 2020.

Gambardella swims year-round with SOCO Aquatics Club and capped off an extremely successful long course season by winning the 200m breast and taking fifth in the 100m breast at Geneva Futures this past summer. Last winter she raced three events at Juniors East, placed fourth in both breaststroke events at Connecticut Seniors, and earned a best time in the 200 breast at Ithaca Sectionals.

Also competing for North Haven High School, Gambardella is a three-time All State swimmer. She earned silver in the 100 breast and bronze in the 200 IM at the Connecticut Open as a junior after placing fourth and fifth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Connecticut.  A big thank you to my parents and coaches for the support. Go Huskies!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:03.29
  • 200 breast – 2:18.65
  • 200 IM – 2:05.74
  • 400 IM – 4:31.63

Gambardella will make an immediate impact when she arrives in Storrs as a member of the class of 2024. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 400 IM at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where Connecticut finished fifth overall in the team standings.
