NEW COMMIT: Lindenwood University has received a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from freestyler Tait Harvey of Liberty, Mo.

A talented freestyler who gets faster as the distance gets longer, Harvey swims year-round with Club North Swimming. He most recently raced three events at Des Moines Futures this past summer after earning five best times at Jenks Sectionals where his highest finish was a sixth-place showing in the 800m free. Last winter, he finished 10th in both the 1000 free and 1650 free at Columbia Sectionals before going on to compete in four events at NCSAs.

Also competing for Liberty Senior High School, Harvey is a four-time Missouri Class 2 State Championship finalist. He placed eighth in the 200 free and 16th in the 100 back as a junior after racing to 10th in the 500 free and 14th in the 200 free during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to Lindenwood University, where I will continue my academic and athletic career. I would like to thank my family, coaches, and anyone who has helped me get to where I am today. I choose LU because of the team culture, opportunity in the pool, amazing coaching staff, and success in the classroom. GO LIONS! #oneroar”

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 48.81
  • 200 free – 1:44.43
  • 500 free – 4:40.85
  • 1000 free – 9:38.38
  • 1650 free – 16:12.88

When he suits up for the Lions as a member of the class of 2024, he’ll add his talents to a freestyle training group that’ll include Jan Hanzal, Melker Olsson, and Niels Eigeln. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free and placed top-6 in the mile at the 2019 New South Conference Championships where Lindenwood finished second overall in the team standings.
