Lindsee Newman verbally commits to Wingate.

NEW COMMIT: Monument, Colo. freestyler Lindsee Newman has given Wingate University their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and will arrive on campus as a member of the Bulldogs’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Wingate University. I cannot wait to join the Bulldog Swim Family. I know that this team and coaches will help me to achieve my dream of swimming at NCAAs. The coaches have been so supportive in helping me to make this decision. Wingate will be a great fit for me to pursue my career choice of becoming a Nurse. I want to thank my Mom, Step-Dad, Dad, and family for all their support in my swimming life. Coach George and my teachers, friends, Swim Sisters, Marcus, and club swim family have been instrumental in supporting me to achieve this goal! I am proud to become a bulldog and am excited about my future at Wingate”

Primarily a distance freestyler, Newman does her club swimming with Pikes Peak Athletics and most recently placed fourth in the 500 free at the CUDA Classic in January. She also had a pair of top-24 finishes at Phoenix Sectionals in 2019.

Last summer, she had a strong showing at Colorado LCM Seniors before going on to compete in four events at Des Moines Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:57.84
  • 500 free – 5:06.15
  • 1000 free – 10:26.87
  • 1650 free – 17:33.14
  • 400 IM – 4:37.83

Newman will add valuable distance freestyle depth to the Bulldogs’ lineup and will join a training group led by Kaitlyn Agger and Louise Hallden. She would’ve finished sixth in the mile, eighth in the 1000 free, and scored in the B-final of the 500 free at the 2020 Bluegrass Mountain/Carolinas Conference Championships.

Newman is a rising senior at Palmer Ridge High School.
