NEW COMMIT: NC State has added a new addition to their 2020-21 recruiting class, this time from Shamokin, Penn. native Abigail Doss.

Primarily a distance freestyler and IMer, Doss does her club swimming with Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA and owns three U.S. Open cuts and three Summer Juniors standards. She most recently competed at YMCA Nationals earlier this month where she placed second in the mile, fifth in the 1000 free and seventh in the 400 IM. She earned gold medals in the 200m/400m free and the 200m IM at YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer after winning the 800m free at Middle Atlantic LCM Seniors.

Also competing for Shamokin High School, Doss is a six-time Pennsylvania 2A State Championship finalist. She won the 500 free and 200 IM during both her sophomore and junior seasons after finishing first and second, respectively, in those events during her rookie campaign. In 2018, Doss attended the USA Swimming National Select Camp.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely proud and excited to announce my verbal commitment to NC State University. I look forward to this opportunity to advance my swimming and academic careers. Thank you to my parents, coaches, and my teammates for supporting me on my journey. Go Wolfpack!”

Her best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:49.65
  • 1000 free – 9:49.11
  • 1650 free – 16:31.59
  • 200 IM – 2:00.35
  • 400 IM – 4:15.60

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before arriving in Raleigh, Doss will be extremely valuable for the Wolfpack’s lineup. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 400 IM, C-final of the 500 free/200 IM and her best mile time would’ve placed in the top-12 at the 2019 ACC Championships where NC State earned their second conference crown in three years.
