NEW COMMIT: Reno, Nevada’s Luke Hobson has announced his verbal pledge to the University of Texas and will join Anthony Grimm in Austin as a member of the Longhorns’ class of 2025.

One of the most versatile freestylers in the class, Hobson swims year-round with Lakeridge Swim Team and owns eight Junior National cuts or faster. This past summer, he earned a pair of best times at Junior Nationals after taking sixth in the 1500m free and seventh in the 200m free at Mount Hood Futures.

Last winter, he had a trio of top-20 finishes at Juniors West before going on to collect six golds at Far Westerns. A current junior at Reno High School, Hobson is a four-time Nevada 4A State Championship gold medalist in the 200 free and 500 free. He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in his career.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“Super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at The University of Texas. HOOK’EM”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.84
  • 100 free – 44.98
  • 200 free – 1:38.48
  • 500 free – 4:27.20
  • 1000 free – 9:13.41

  • 200 IM – 1:59.08

Hobson has seen some big time drops in a short period of time, shaving 37 seconds in the mile, 19 in the 1000 free, six in the 500 free, and two in the 100/200 free last season alone. Combined with his versatility, his quick rate of improvements will bode well for the Longhorns and Hobson will surely find himself in a number of different events throughout his college career.
