NEW POST: Butterflier Maddy Potter has announced her intention to swim for Notre Dame with a verbal commitment. The Minneapolis, Minn. native will join the Irish in the fall of 2019.

Potter does her club swimming with the Aquajets Swim Team where she is a U.S. Open qualifier in the 100 fly. At Junior Nationals this August, she finished 20th in the 100m fly with a new life-time best of 1:01.61. She also recorded a tenth-place finish in the 100 fly (53.93) and notched four new best times at the 2018 NCSA Junior National Championships in March.

A four-time Minnesota Class A champion, Potter also represents Blake School for high school swimming. During her junior season, she won the 200 IM (2:03.76) and 100 fly (54.63). She was crowned champion in those same events (2:05.28, 55.40) during her sophomore campaign as well.

She told Swimming World:

“I am very excited and honored to commit to Notre Dame! I fell in love with the beautiful campus and a team atmosphere like no other. I know that I will not only be able to excel in my athletics but also my academics attending Notre Dame! Go Irish!!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 53.93
  • 200 fly – 2:00.50
  • 50 free – 23.92
  • 100 free – 51.44
  • 200 IM – 2:03.73

Potter will make a big splash for the Irish when she arrives on campus as part of the class of 2023. She will have one season to train with top returning 100 butterflier Erin Sheehan, who finished tenth in the 100 fly at the 2018 ACC Championships, and two years of overlap with Rachel Wittmer, her former Aquajets teammate. Both Potter’s best 100 and 200 fly times would’ve scored in the C-final at last season’s conference meet.
