Former German Swim Champ Dies in Blast of Suicide Bomb

BERLIN, June 15. CARSTEN Kuhlmorgen, 32, a former top East German swimmer, died Saturday in Afghanistan as a result of injuries suffered from an attack by a suicide car bomber.

Four German soldiers, serving as peacekeepers and aid workers, were killed in the blast, and 29 others were injured, according to a story in Der Berliner Morgenpost.

Kuhlmorgen was the last East German 200 meter fly national champion, winning the event at the 1990 DDR National Championships. He joined the German Army following the reunion of Germany.
