Flyers Provide Fireworks at Bloomington Speedo Champions Series Sectional
BLOOMINGTON, Ind., July 28. BOTH winners in the 100-meter butterfly events blazed to Olympic Trial cut times in their races at the Bloomington Speedo Champions Series Sectional at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center on the campus of Indiana University.
Dana Christ, a 16-year-old, ripped off a 1:02.20 to claim the women’s 100 fly competition, while Indiana University’s Scott Tanner turned in a sparkling time of 55.44 to snare his 100 fly crown.
In other action, Bradley Craig and Elliott Keefer came down to the touch in the 100-meter breaststroke as Craig out-touched Keefer by .02 seconds, 1:05.46 to 1:05.48. Both efforts eclipsed the national cut threshold.
Another Hoosier picked up gold as Indiana’s Abby Cooper pocketed her second title of the meet with a first-place time of 1:13.97 in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Meanwhile, Grace Fredlake posted a first-place time of 4:21.06 in the 400-meter freestyle, while Oakland Live Y’er Shane Lichtenberg won the men’s side of the event with a 4:07.62.
In the 100-meter backstroke, Oakland Live Y’er Sasha Lewerenz captured the crown in 1:05.59, while Jordan Diekema earned the triumph on the men’s side of the event in 59.39.
