Florida’s Ball, Jayme Named SEC Swimmers of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala, January 9. UNIVERSITY of Florida freshman Katie Ball (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior Carlos Jayme (Goias, Brazil) were named the Southeastern Conference's Swimmers of the Week.

Ball, the SEC Women's Swimmer of the Week, swam the fastest times in two events in Florida's 135-88 win over Kentucky. Ball recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time and career-best time in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:31.52) en route to a first place finish. Her time also is the second-fastest time in the SEC. Ball also swam the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle with a career-best time of 4:52.41.

Jayme recorded a pair of NCAA provisional times as he won both individual events he competed in as well as helping the Gators win the 400-yard medley relay as Florida defeated No. 22 Kentucky 133-96 on Jan. 3.

Jayme won the 100-yard free for the fourth time in as many chances this season with a time of 44.26 – more than a second faster than the runner-up. He also took top honors in the 200-yard free with a provisional mark of 1:38.96. So far this season, in college-only meets, Jayme has posted seven individual event wins in the eight events and the Gators have yet to lose a relay event in which he has swum. Jayme ranks second in the SEC in the 100-yard freestyle (44.26) and is fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (20.46).
