Florida Women’s Swimming Moves to No. 1; Cal Men Retain Top Spot
The University of Florida women’s swimming and diving team has been voted No. 1 in the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) TYR Top 25 poll released on Wednesday.
The Gators (5-0) hold the top spot in the rankings with 315 points, with No. 2 Stanford behind them with a tally of 307 points.
This is the first time Florida women’s swimming has been the top team in the nation since their NCAA Championship-winning season in 2009-10.
Ranked No. 10 in the opening poll, UF jumped nine spots after picking up a pair of road dual wins over then No. 18 Minnesota and then No. 6 Missouri in back-to-back weeks.
Against the Gophers, UF won 12 individual events and both relays, led by Sherridon Dressel‘s three-win performance and Leah Braswell‘s sweep of the distance events.
In their 176-124 road victory at Missouri, the 400 free relay team of Dressel, Talia Bates, Gabby Hillis and Bella Garofalo posted the fastest combined swim in the nation this season (3:16.93). Braswell would go on to win both distance events again, highlighted by the fourth-fastest 500 free time in the NCAA at the time of the dual. Two-time SEC Women’s Diver of the Week Ashley McCool added the top 3-meter dive in the SEC and won the 1-meter event as well.
Over this current win streak, Florida women’s swimming is outscoring their opponents 995.5- 491.5.
Florida women’s swimming returns to the pool for their first two home meets of the season, beginning with their home opener against No. 12 Georgia on Nov. 1 at 11 a.m.
No. 20 Florida State will make a visit to Gainesville the following Friday as the Gators and Seminoles square off in the Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown on Nov. 8.
