Florida State Spears 2021 Verbal Commitment from Breaststroker Maddy Huggins

NEW COMMIT: Breaststroker Madeline “Maddy” Huggins of Carbondale, Ill. has announced her verbal commitment to Florida State University beginning in the fall of 2021.

She will join Jenny Bird, Alexandra Dicks, Ella Dyjak and Rachel Moran in Tallahassee as a member of the Seminoles’ class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to Florida State University. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and friends for helping me throughout this process. I chose FSU because of the awesome coaching staff, team culture and academics. I can’t wait to be a Seminole! #fearthespear”

Huggins swims year-round with Saluki Swim Club and owns the Junior National standard in the 100 breast. She most recently raced to ninth in the 200 IM at at the Ozark A Championships and placed fifth in the 200 breast and sixth in the 100 breast at Columbia Sectionals in 2019. Last summer, she posted a pair of top-15 finishes at Des Moines Futures.

Her best times include:

50 breast – 29.36
100 breast – 1:02.59
200 breast – 2:17.64
200 IM – 2:05.63

Also competing for Carbondale High School, Huggins is a three-time Illinois State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished seventh in the 100 breast and 12th in the 200 IM as a junior while taking ninth in the former event during her sophomore season.

Under head coach Neal Studd, Florida State finished seventh at the 2020 ACC Championships.
