NEW COMMIT: Cypress, Texas native and current high school senior Carson Kaufmann has verbally committed to Florida State University and will arrive in Tallahassee as a member of the class of 2024.

A rangy freestyler, Kaufmann swims year-round with Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club and owns three Summer Juniors standards. She most recently competed at Des Moines Futures where she placed fourth in the 1500m free, sixth in the 400m free and seventh in the 200m free. Last winter, she raced three events at Juniors West and earned bronze in the 400m free at 2018 Rochester Futures.

Also competing for Cypress Fairbanks High School, Kaufmann finished ninth in the 500 free as a sophomore at the Texas UIL 6A State Championships after placing eighth in that event as well as the 200 free during her rookie campaign. She has also earned NISCA All-American honors.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Florida State University!! Thank you to my family, friends & coaches who have helped me get to where I am. I can’t wait for the next 4 years as a Seminole!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 52.01
  • 200 free – 1:49.75
  • 500 free – 4:51.08
  • 1000 free – 10:06.65
  • 1650 free – 17:14.87

Kaufmann will add much-needed distance depth when she gets to Florida State as her best times already rank near the top of the lineup. Although she’s just on the brink of scoring range at the ACC Championships, she still has a year of club swimming to go before suiting up for the Seminoles.
