NEW COMMIT: Saint Charles, Ill. native Nick Vance has recently given Florida State his verbal commitment and will arrive in Tallahassee next fall.

Vance does his club swimming with West Chicago Sharks and is a nine-time Junior National qualifier with a U.S. Open cut in three of those events. He capped off his summer season by winning the 200m back at NCSAs and was the 400m IM runner-up. He earned a gold, two silvers and a bronze at the Illinois Senior LCM Championships and recorded a pair of best times at Nationals.

Vance has also seen success in yards and achieved 100% lifetime bests at Juniors West last winter with an eighth-place showing in the 200 back. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American posted six top-5 finishes at the Illinois Senior Championships and won four events at CAT American Junior Nationals in March. He was also recently chosen to participate in USA Swimming’s National Select Camp.

He told Swimming World:

“So excited to have found my place. Awesome coaches, awesome team and culture, awesome school. Let’s get to work! Go NOLES!”

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:39.71
  • 500 free – 4:28.16
  • 1000 free – 9:18.19
  • 1650 free – 15:42.97
  • 100 back – 49.77
  • 200 back – 1:44.95
  • 200 fly – 1:48.49
  • 200 IM – 1:49.48
  • 400 IM – 3:51.45

Vance’s versatility will be extremely valuable when he suits up for the Seminoles as a member of the class of 2023 and could find himself in a number of different events. His best 200 back, 200 fly and 400 IM would’ve scored in the C-final of the 2018 ACC Championships where Florida State finished fifth in the team standings.
