Florida State Grabs Verbal from Six-Time Iowa State Championship Finalist Arianna Ottavianelli

NEW COMMIT: Florida State University has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Bettendorf, Iowa native and current high school senior Arianna Ottavianelli.

Ottavianelli, who has achieved the Winter Juniors time standard in the 100 breast, swims year-round with the Iowa Flyers Swim Club and most recently placed fourth in the 100m fly at the Iowa LCM Championships. Last winter, she recorded five top-12 finishes at the ISI Senior meet en route to notching a best time in the 100 fly.

Also competing for Bettendorf High School, Ottavianelli is a six-time Iowa State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was the 200 IM runner-up and placed fourth in the 100 breast as a junior after earning the silver medal in both of those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Florida State University. I look forward to swimming under Coach Studd and his progressive program. I am very thankful for this opportunity to swim for the best coaches at the best university.  Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me. Go Noles!! Fear the Spear!!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:03.69
  • 200 breast – 2:24.07
  • 100 fly – 56.59
  • 200 IM – 2:03.16
  • 50 free – 24.04
  • 100 free – 52.14

Ottavianelli’s versatility will be extremely beneficial for Florida State when she arrives in Tallahassee has a member of the class of 2024. Although she’s just shy of scoring range at the ACC Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season with a year of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Seminoles.
