NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Giovanni “Gio” Linscheer of Richardson, Texas, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Florida beginning in the fall of 2022.

He will join Cam Abaqueta and Dawson Joyce in Gainesville as a member of the Gators’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Florida! I’m super thankful for the family, coaches, and my teammates who helped me get where I am today #gogators”

A talented IMer and distance freestyler, Linscheer does his club swimming with the City of Richardson Swim Team and most recently earned four best times at the 18&U Winter Championships after picking up two at the Toyota U.S. Open. In Summer 2019, he finaled in four events at Austin Sectionals.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:51.23
  • 400 IM – 3:53.89
  • 200 free – 1:39.98
  • 500 free – 4:28.24
  • 1000 free – 9:18.30
  • 1650 free – 15:19.21
  • 200 breast – 2:03.64

Currently a junior at Plano East Senior High School, Linscheer placed eighth in the 200 IM and ninth in the 500 free as a sophomore at the Texas 6A State Championships. He won both of those events two weeks prior at the UIL 6A Region 02 Championships.

Linscheer will be joining a Gator program that has a long legacy of producing IM and distance freestyle greats. His best time in the mile would’ve landed him 18th at the 2020 SEC Championships while he would’ve placed in the C-final of the 400 IM.

The Gators won their eighth-straight SEC title last season under head coach Anthony Nesty.
