NEW COMMIT: Butterflyer and sprint freestyler Lucas Kelly of Chandler, Az. has given his verbal commitment to Florida Atlantic University and will arrive in Boca Raton next fall.

Kelly does his club swimming with Mesa Aquatic Club and placed ninth in the 100m fly at Arizona LCM Senior Opens this past summer after earning 100% best times at Mount Hood Sectionals. Last winter, he had a pair of second swims at Arizona SCY Senior Opens before going on to finish 11th in the 200 fly at Phoenix Sectionals. Also competing for Chandler High School, Kelly earned bronze in the 100 fly and took fifth in the 200 free as a junior at the Arizona DII State Championships.

He told Swimming World:

“i am so blessed to be able to go D1 with the best team there is! can’t wait to be #winninginparadise so grateful for my family, friends, coaches, and God helping me through this process! go owls! i loved the team they were all so close! in the one weekend i was their i already see them as friends! the campus was beautiful and clean and the city of boca raton is on the beach which i love! the team and school checked everything off that i’ve ever wanted in a school!”

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 50.10
  • 200 fly – 1:52.70
  • 50 free – 22.45
  • 100 free – 48.15
  • 200 free – 1:43.68

When he suits up for the Owls as a member of the class of 2024, Kelly will add his talents to a fly group that’ll be led by Skyler Hamilton and Josh McQueen. He would’ve scored in the B-final of both butterfly events at the 2019 CCSA Championships where Florida Atlantic finished second overall in the team standings.
