NEW COMMIT: Sanford, Fla. native and current high school junior Wesley Kephart has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Pittsburgh as a member of the class of 2024.

Primarily a sprint freestyler, Kephart does his club swimming with Sky Family YMCA Hurricanes and owns a trio of Winter Juniors standards. He most recently competed at YMCA Nationals where his highest finish was a 10th-place showing in the 50 free after winning the 50/100 free combo at the Florida Spring Championships. He notched a best time at Juniors East in December and was a three-time finalist at Cary Futures this past summer.

Also competing for Venice Senior High School, Kephart is a five-time Florida State Championship finalist and has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors. He won the 50 free and took fourth in the 100 free as a junior at the 3A meet after finishing third in the 100 free and 14th in the 200 free during his sophomore season at the 4A championships.

He told Swimming World:

“I am so proud and excited to announce my commitment to the University of Pittsburgh. I chose Pitt because it felt like home from the moment I stepped onto campus. I instantly fell in love with the coaches, the team, the campus and the city. Pitt is somewhere where I can achieve all of my goals, both academically and athletically. I cannot wait to be a Pitt Panther!!! Hail to Pitt!!! #H2P”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.67
  • 100 free – 45.40
  • 200 free – 1:39.99
  • 500 free – 4:33.80
  • 100 fly – 49.93

Kephart will add valuable depth to Pitt’s sprint group when he suits up for the Panthers in the fall of 2020. Although he’s just shy of scoring range at the ACC Championships, he has continuously made improvements each season with well over a year to go before arriving at Pitt.
