Florida 3A State Champion Ian Cooper Stays In-State, Commits to FSU Seminoles
NEW COMMIT: Quickly-improving Ian Cooper of St. Johns, Fla. has elected to stay in-state with his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles beginning in the fall of 2019.
Primarily a sprinter, Cooper swims year-round with Storm Swim Club and owns the Summer Juniors standard in the 50m free. He most recently competed at Juniors East last month where he recorded a lifetime best in the 100 back. He won the 50m free and achieved six new personal bests at Southern Zone Seniors this past summer and registered five second-swims at Gainesville Speedo Sectionals in March. Also competing for Creekside High School, Cooper is a four-time Florida 3A State Championship finalist. He won the 100 free and was the 50 free runner-up as a junior after placing 12th and ninth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I chose FSU because of the amazing coaching staff, team atmosphere, and academics. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me along the way. I can’t wait for the next 4 years! Go Noles!”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.92
- 100 free – 45.58
- 200 free – 1:42.59
- 100 back – 51.89
Cooper has made tremendous improvements over the past two seasons. He has dropped two seconds from his 50 free, four from the 100 free, 22 from the 200 free and seven seconds from the 100 back. His significant time drops will be extremely valuable for the Seminoles when he arrives in Tallahassee as a member of the class of 2023.
