Flip Turns Podcast With Olympians: What Makes Swim Across America Special?
Left Sidebar
Swim Across America is a grant making organization that hosts charity swims. The proceeds from each charity swim are granted to a hospital in the community of the swim to fund cancer research and clinical trials. Since it’s first swim in 1987, SAA has granted over $75M that has lead to breakthroughs and new cures in the fight against cancer. More families now have hope because of SAAs support.
Olympians Heather Petri, Kristy Kowal, Rada Owen, Dana Kirk, Craig Beardsley, Mark Henderson, Susan Heon Preston, SAA beneficiary doctors Dr. Julie Saba and Dr. Rob Goldsby, open water legend Suzanne Heim-Bowen, and SAA—San Francisco event director Susan Helmrich are featured in this emotional Flip Turns podcast with host Chris Conner. In the podcast, each shares what SAA means to them.
“Instead of the usual stories of people whose lives were changed by swimming, this month I’m sharing the story of swimmers who changing the lives of others. Swim Across America hosts charity open water swims in 20 cities across the US (as well as several pool swims). The money raised by those events goes to support cancer research and clinical trials in those cities.“I had the privilege of speaking with a handful of Olympians who donate their time to support the swim in San Francisco Bay. Once you hear their stories, you’ll be ready to dive in.
“You’ll also hear from two doctors whose programs benefit from that swim. They’ll be highlighted in greater depth in the next episode. For now, enjoy listening and consider supporting this great organization,” according to Flip Turns Host Chris Connor.
