Flash! Jade Edmistone Takes Ownership of the 50m Breaststroke World Record Posting 29.90.

By Stephen J. Thomas

BRISBANE, Australia. September 25. THE previously unheralded Jade Edmistone tonight shaved 0.06 of a second off the world mark for the short course 50 meter breaststroke she held jointly with Emma Igelstrom after matching the Swede’s time last night in the semifinals.

It was expected to be a tough contest with dual Olympic medalist Brooke Hanson in the final but Edmistone, the 22-year-old Queenslander, dominated her more experienced rival to touch in 29.90 to Hanson’s 30.35. In November last year, Australia's leading breaststroker, Leisel Jones, set short course world marks in the 100-200 breaststroke, although the 100m mark has since been lowered by American Olympian Tara Kirk at the Women's NCAA’s in March.
