NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Lydia Hanlon of Tallahassee, Fla. has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky beginning in the fall of 2022.

She will join Grace Frericks, Marin McKeeJordan Agliano and Breckin Gormley in Lexington as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Kentucky!! I’m so thrilled to join such an amazing group & can’t wait to see what the future holds! Looking forward to seeing what God has in store for me in Lexington. Huge thank you to my friends, family, and coaches for all their continuous support! GO WILDCATS???”

A talented backstroker and butterflyer, Hanlon does her club swimming with Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club and raced four events at Juniors East last December. She also recorded a trio of top-15 finishes at the Florida OT Qualifier in February.

In Summer 2019, she won the 50m fly and was the runner-up in the 100m fly at the Florida LCM Age Group Championships before going on to earn bronze in the 100m fly at Greensboro Sectionals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.70
  • 100 back – 54.44
  • 200 back – 1:58.67
  • 50 fly – 24.74
  • 100 fly – 53.73
  • 100 free – 51.35
  • 200 free – 1:49.93

Currently a junior at Lawton Chiles High School, Hanlon is already a six-time individual Florida 3A State Championship finalist. She successfully defended her 100 fly state title as a junior and has remained undefeated in the 100 back all three seasons.

Hanlon will add valuable backstroke and butterfly to UK’s lineup when she arrives on campus at the start of the 2022-23 season. She would’ve placed in the C-final of the 100 fly at the 2020 SEC Championships where the Wildcats finished third under head coach Lars Jorgensen.
