Five-Star Recruit Jamie Bohunicky Pledges to Florida
GAINESVILLE, Florida, September 19. THE University of Florida scored its second high-profile verbal commitment from the Class of 2009 when it added Florida resident, and Swimming World five-star recruit Jamie Bohunicky.
According to Gatorsports.com, Bohunicky chose Florida over Georgia in what must have been a Southeastern Conference recruiting battle behind the scenes.
"I've been working out [at Florida] for a while, and I think they have the best type of training I need to further my swimming career," Bohunicky told Gatorsports.com. "I am pretty close with the coaches and I won't have to readjust (to a new set of coaches). The coaches (at UF) know me and what I'm good at. They understand me."
Bohunicky owns U.S. Olympic Trials cuts in the 100-meter free (56.72), 200-meter free (2:01.69), 400-meter free (4:18.85) and 200-meter fly (2:15.30). These cuts are an integral part of the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings.
Bohunicky joins six-star Corinne Showalter as early pledges to the Florida program. Showalter earned the rare six-star ranking due to her time of 4:41.91 in the 500-yard free, which would have put her in the A final at the 2008 NCAA Division I Championships in that event.
