NEW COMMIT: Olympic Trials qualifier Will Scholtz of Prospect, Kentucky, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Texas and will arrive in Austin in the fall of 2023.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Texas at Austin. I want to thank Coach Mike and my parents for making me the person and swimmer I am today as well as my teammates for always supporting me. I also would like to thank Coach Wyatt and Coach Eddie for giving me this opportunity to swim on one of the best programs in the country. HOOK’EM!”

A breaststroker and IMer, Scholtz trains year-round with Lakeside Swim Team and was recently selected to represent the U.S. He competed at the FINA World Cup stops in Berlin and Budapest, racing seven events in Budapest after taking 12th in the 200m breast in Berlin.

Scholtz placed 10th in the 200m breast during Wave I of Olympic Trials in June before going on to earn bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m breast at Huntsville Futures. He also won the 100m breast at the Mizuno Atlanta Classic back in the spring.

Currently a junior at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Scholtz is a four-time Kentucky State Championship finalist, guiding his team to their 33rd-straight state title in 2021. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 breast and took third in the 200 IM as a sophomore while taking fourth in both of those events as a freshman.
