Fighting Irish Add Ava Pape, Becky Rentz To Class of 2025

NEW COMMITS: The University of Notre Dame has secured a pair of verbal commitments for the 2025-26 season and beyond from Ava Pape of Prosper, Texas, and Becky Rentz of Aurora, Illinois.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to extend my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame!! I would like to thank God, my family, friends, coaches, and teammates! I could not have done it without you guys! A huge thank you to the @ndswimdive coaches and swimmers- I cannot wait to be apart of the family!! GO IRISH”

Pape does her club swimming with Texas Ford Aquatics and owns the North Texas Swimming LSC record in the 200m back. She earned best times in all her events at the NT LAC Fall Classic in November where she won five events. She also placed 12th in the 400m IM at Junior Nationals this past summer.

Her best times include:

  • 400 IM – 4:20.56
  • 200 IM – 2:04.57
  • 200 back – 1:57.45
  • 100 back – 58.61
  • 200 fly – 1:59.87

Pape attends Coram Deo Academy and is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She is a two-time TAPPS DIII state champion in both the 200 IM and 500 free.

Becky Rentz

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame!! I’m so grateful for this opportunity and I want to thank all my coaches, friends, and family for supporting me throughout the journey and helping me get to where I am today. GO IRISH!!!”

Rentz trains year-round with Academy Bullets Swim Club and competed at the Toyota U.S. Open before going on to race at Juniors West so far this short course season. She posted six top-12 finishes at the NCSA Long Course Championships in July, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 100m fly.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 53.07
  • 50 free – 23.10
  • 100 free – 49.96
  • 200 free – 1:47.47
  • 100 back – 55.66
  • 200 IM – 2:03.89
  • 200 fly – 2:03.76

Currently a junior at Rosary High School, Rentz won the 100 fly and 200 free at the 2023 Illinois State Championships. She placed second in the 100 fly and fourth in the 50 free at the state meet as a sophomore.
