NEW COMMIT: Parkland, Fla. native Hannah Virgin has recently announced her verbal commitment to swim for Virginia Tech. She’ll join Morgan MillerAshley Worden, Shelby Raber and Rose Pouch as members of the Hokie class of 2023.

Virgin races year-round with Pine Crest Swim Team and has a U.S. Open time standard in the 100 breast. She competed in both breaststroke events as well as the 200 IM at the 2017 Speedo Winter Juniors East. At the Florida Gold Coast Senior Championships in 2017, she won the 200 breast (2:15.53) and was the runner-up in the 100 (1:04.65).

Also competing for Pine Crest School, Virgin is the two-time defending FHSAA Class 1A State champion in the 100 breast. After placing fifth in the event with a time of 1:04.90 during her inaugural high school season, she returned during her sophomore campaign to win the title in 1:04.06. As a junior, she repeated as champion with a final time of 1:03.89.

She told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to Virginia Tech! I immediately fell in love with the campus and knew it was home. The team and the coaching staff are incredible and I am so thankful for this opportunity. Also, thank you to everyone who has supported me through this journey. Go Hokies!!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:03.52
  • 200 breast – 2:15.53
  • 200 IM – 2:05.80

When she arrives in Blacksburg for the 2019-20 season, she’ll join a talented breaststroke training group that includes Joelle Vereb, Erin Scott and Reka Gyorgy. Virginia Tech finished seventh at last year’s ACC Championships.
