FAU Women Dominate Invite, Men Lose Two

BOCA RATON, FL. December 21. FLORIDA Atlantic University's swim teams head into the winter break after hosting the FAU Invite on Saturday morning. The men's team defeated Davidson, while the women won 11 events to defeat Davidson and Sun Belt Conference foe Denver.

Four women won multiple events for the Owls. Lauren Shue (Fort Myers, FL) took the distance events with times of 10:19.26 in the 1000 free and 5:02.71 in the 500 free. Juniors Ellie Weberg (Bloomington, MN) and Geni Burts (Pembroke Pines, FL) also took top honors. Weberg won the breaststroke events. She took the 100 by narrowly beating out teammate Halle Keihlmier with a time of 1:04.73 before returning to win the 200 breast by more than five seconds by touching the wall in 2:18.87.

Burts ran away with the 400 IM by touching the wall in 4:26.80 and just beat out Denver's Caitlin Summers in the 200 free in 1:53.08.

Three freshmen had strong showings in the meet. Bianca Murphy (Jupiter, FL) won the 50 free in 24.52 and Jennifer Forcht (Louisville, KY) won both the 100 free (53.22) and 100 fly (57.06). Freshman diver Lauren Harvath, who holds both FAU diving records, won the 1-meter event with a score of 216.83.

Pavel Babaev won the 100 free for the men's team with a time of 47.47.

Earning second place finishes were Kevin Bartell in the 100 breast (58.43) and Jonathon Pinto in the 200 back (1:55.70)

The team will be off until Jan. 6, when it hosts the Winter Invite at FAU Pool.
