Exclusive! Bob Bowman To Be Named Head Coach at the University of Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, April 1. SWIMINFO has learned that Bob Bowman, Head Performance Coach at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club and coach of superstar Michael Phelps, has accepted the position of Head Men's Coach at the University of Michigan.

A formal announcement is expected late today or early tomorrow.

Bowman will replace retiring Coach Jon Urbanchek.

According to several reliable sources, Bowman will not take up his duties until September, after the Olympic Games, where Phelps is expected to win multiple medals. It is not known whether Phelps will move to Michigan after the Olympics to continue training under Bowman.

Murray Stephens, Head Coach of the North baltimore Aquatic Club said: "n behalf of the staff of the North Baltimore A.C., we wish Coach Bowman well in his new endevors."

Coach Bowman was unavailable for comment, as he is currently on a flight. University of Michigan Athletic Director Bill Martin was out of town and unreachable, and Associate Athletic Director Megan McAllister would not comment on the story, saying only that a press release would be issued later today.
