Evergreen Swim Club’s William Christenson Pledges Verbal to Minnesota Golden Gophers
NEW COMMIT: William Christenson of Olympia, Wash., has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota and will join the Golden Gophers as a member of the class of 2024.
Christenson, who owns a trio of Winter Juniors standards, swims year-round with Evergreen Swim Club. He achieved four best times at Federal Way Sectionals in March where his highest finish was a ninth-place showing in the mile after racing five events at Juniors West in December. Last summer, he was the 400m IM and 200m fly runner-up at Pacific Northwest LCM Seniors. Christenson has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.
He told Swimming World:
“I am incredibly excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Minnesota! Right from the start, I felt that this would be a place I could be successful in the classroom and in the pool. Both the coaching staff and the swimmers made me feel at home and I am ready to be a part of this incredible team. Go Gophers!!”
His best times include:
- 50 fly – 24.22
- 100 fly – 51.00
- 200 fly – 1:50.15
- 200 IM – 1:54.92
- 400 IM – 4:01.17
Christenson has continuously made improvements each season with just over a year to go before suiting up for the Gophers. When he arrives on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season, he’ll add valuable depth to both their fly and IM training groups.
