NEW COMMIT: Ankara, Turkey native Batuhan Filiz has announced his verbal commitment to Texas A&M University and will arrive in College Station in the fall of 2022.

He will join Connor Foote and Baylor Nelson as a member of the Aggies’ Class of 2026.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Texas A&M University for the class of 2022. I chose Texas A&M because of its strong academics, welcoming team synergy and supportive coaches. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and for all my friends.I want to say huge thanks to everybody who supported me throughout this journey especially my family, teammates and coaches.”

Filiz trains with Enka Spor Kulubu and attends Ugur Batikent Private High School. While representing Turkey internationally, he won the 400m free at the LEN European Junior Championships this past summer in 3:50.68, besting the runner-up by .11. He also finished seventh in the 200m free.

Back in April, he won the 200m free, 400m free, and 800m free at the Turkish Youth Junior and Winter Nationals.

In LCM, his best times include:

  • 800m free – 8:00.43
  • 400m free – 3:50.68
  • 200m free – 1:49.98
  • 100m free – 52.18

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 800 free – 8:58.29
  • 400 free – 4:18.46
  • 200 free – 1:36.19
  • 100 free – 45.56

Filiz’s best time in the 400m free (converted to yards) would’ve made him the second fastest 500 freestyler on the Aggies’ lineup last season.

Under head coach Jay Holmes, Texas A&M finished fourth in the team standings at the 2021 SEC Championships.
