Ethan Smith of Sandpipers of Nevada Lends Verbal Commitment to Long Island University

NEW COMMIT: Las Vegas, Nevada native Ethan Smith will head to the East Coast next fall after verbally committing to Long Island University as a member of the Sharks’ Class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I am overjoyed and extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment, continuing my academic and athletic adventures at Long Island University. I can’t feel enough gratitude for all my friends, family, and coaches in supporting and helping me become the athlete I see in the mirror. Also, a big thank you to Coach Matt Donovan for helping me through the recruiting process. I am thrilled to represent the team and program. GO SHARKS!!!? “

Smith does his club swimming with Sandpipers of Nevada and recorded three best times at intrasquad meets throughout this past summer. He recorded four top-12 finishes at the TYR Desert Committee Championships in February and had a strong showing at the KMSC Pro-Am Classic in December.

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 51.65
  • 200 free – 1:50.75
  • 500 free – 4:54.22
  • 1000 free – 10:01.30
  • 1650 free – 17:13.89
  • 200 IM – 2:01.59
  • 100 fly – 57.31
  • 100 back – 58.35

Also competing for Palo Verde High School, Smith placed seventh in the 100 back and ninth in the 100 fly at the Nevada 4A Mountain Region Championships during his sophomore season.

The 2020-21 season marks Long Island University’s first year with men’s swimming as a varsity sport. The Sharks are led by head coach Matthew Donovan.
