Eneli Jefimova, Leah Shackley Come Through for NC State Women as Wolfpack Sweep North Carolina

The NC State Wolfpack swim and dive teams made the short trip west to Chapel Hill Friday to face the North Carolina Tar Heels, emerging with a pair of wins. The NC State women dominated by a 204-94 final score while the men won 179-108.

The NC State women fired off a statement swim in the 200 medley relay as the group of Leah ShackleyEneli JefimovaErika Pelaez and Olivia Nel combined for a time of 1:34.72. Shortly after, Pelaez returned to post a winning time of 1:44.03 in the 200 freestyle, with Lily King not far away in 1:44.91. Jefimova blasted a time of 58.65 to finish first in the 100 breaststroke, and she returned to take the win in the 200 breast (2:10.05).

Shackley finished in 1:51.45 for first in the 200 backstroke, and she would also place first in the 100 butterfly (51.85). NC State’s Katherine Helms topped the 1000 free in 9:41.55 while veteran Kennedy Noble came in first in the 100 back (51.52) and 200 IM (1:57.06). Cassie Moses swept the sprint freestyle events, going 22.07 in the 50 to tie with teammate Lily Christianson before clocking 48.07 in the 100.

The team of Pelaez, Moses, King and Nel finished off the meet with a winning time of 3:11.21 in the 400 free relay, surpassing the Wolfpack “B” squad by six seconds and the top-finishing North Carolina group by seven.

UNC got its first win from Taylor Bloom in the 200 fly, clocking 1:55.19, and Maren Conze went 4:44.82 to win the 500 free, an event UNC swept the top-three places. Sofia Knight of the Tar Heels dominated diving, winning 1-meter (312.45) and 3-meter (333.38).

For the NC State men, Quintin McCartyArsen KozhakhmetovAiden Hayes and Drew Salls began the competition with a win in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:23.71 while the NC State “B” team was second. McCarty got the win in the 50 free (19.02) while Jerry Fox led a Wolfpack sweep in the 100 free, his winning time 42.14.

NC State’s Max Carlsen won the 1000 free (8:42.38) and 500 free (4:15.10) while Kaii Winkler had wins in the 200 free (1:33.62) and 100 fly (45.99). Hudson Williams dominated the 100 back with a time of 45.52, and Gavin Keogh took the 200 back in 1:42.00, with Daniel Diehl a hundredth back in second place. Diehl came through for a win in the 200 IM (1:43.89). Fox, Winkler, McCarty and Williams all recorded 41s in a dominant showing in the 400 free relay (2:46.82).

North Carolina’s Ben Delmar crushed the breaststroke events, with a time of 52.68 in the 100 and 1:54.09 in the 200. Seb Lunak cruised in the 200 fly in 1:43.62 while Carter Loftin had big points in diving (306.45 in 1-meter, 328.50 in 3-meter).
