Emma Davidson, Thomas Finello Sprint Double Winners at CIF SS D3 Meet

Qualification for next weekend’s California’s high school state championship meet kicks off this weekend with Sectional Championships. Division three of the Southern Section competed in their finals Thursday night. Check back to Swimming World all weekend long for updates on the highlights of California high school action.

Marlborough scored 208 point to just beat Mark Keppel for the girls meet title. The boys from Nipomo won with 241.5 points ahead of Yorba Linda’s 228 points.

Poly-Pasedena senior Susannah Laster dominated the 200 IM, winning by five seconds with a 2:03.46. Webb’s Rylie Brick won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.86).

Emma Davidson, a Yorba Linda junior, topped the 50 freestyle in 23.30 and made it a sprint double with her 50.90 100 freestyle. Teagan Monroe, a sophomore from Rio Mesa, turned in a 54.96 to win the 100 butterfly. Monroe was later runner up in the 100 backstroke behind Heritage senior Katelyn Thomas in 55.28.

Nick Ding of Yorba Linda won the 200 IM in 1:50.17 and followed that swim up with a 49.21 second victory in the 100 fly.

Viewpoint senior Thomas Finello raced to a time of 20.43 in the 50 freestyle, winning by over a second. He was also dominant in the 100 freestyle, stopping the clock in 45.09.

The men’s 500 freestyle was a deep, tight field, with a trio of sophomores at the top. Nipomo’s Blake Simpson out touched Palm Springs’ Cody Meyer 3:34.54 to 3:34.97. After swimming 4:33s in prelims La Serna’s Spencer Sorosky (4:35.38) and Nipomo’s Wyatt Marsalek (4:35.46) were third and fourth.

Sorosky’s senior teammate Sean Ward topped the 100 breaststroke in 56.16.
