Ella Smoker to Stay In-State With 2024 Verbal Commitment to Texas A&M

NEW COMMIT: Cypress, Texas native Ella Smoker has opted to remain in-state for her college career, verbally committing to Texas A&M University beginning in the fall of 2024.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Texas A&M University! Thank you to my family, coaches, friends, and teammates for supporting me and helping me get here. Gig’em!!”

Smoker, who trains year-round with Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club, most recently competed at Juniors East where she placed 13th in the 200 breast. Back in the summer, she raced to fourth in the 200m breast, eighth in the 400m IM, ninth in the 100m breast and 10th in the 200m IM at Austin Sectionals.

Her best times include:

  • 200 breast – 2:12.90
  • 100 breast – 1:02.26
  • 200 IM – 2:02.76
  • 400 IM – 4:23.85
  • 200 free – 1:51.38
  • 500 free – 4:56.26

Currently a junior at Cypress Fairbanks High School, Smoker raced to third in the 100 breast and sixth in the 200 IM at the 2022 Texas UIL 6A State Championships. She took 10th in the 100 breast during her freshman season.

Even with a year and a half to go before arriving in College Station, Smoker’s top 200 breast time would’ve scored in the C-final at the 2022 SEC Championships.
