Eighth Ranked SMU Women Down No.13 Texas A&M

SMU 167 over A&M 111

COLLEGE STATION, Texas. January 14. THIS afternoon at College Station, the No. 8 SMU women's swimming and diving team downed No. 13 Texas A&M in a dual meet. A total of 16 events were held and the Mustangs took first-place in 11 of those events ending the meet with a score of 167 over A&M's 111.

Flavia Rigamonti finished first in the 1000 yard freestyle event with a time of 9:54.61 while teammate Katie Roberts came in right behind Rigamonti with a time of 9:56.60. Jennifer Basel and Tamara Sambrailo took the 100 yard breastroke competition winning first and second with times of 1:04.09 and 1:04.52, respectively.

In the 200 yard butterfly event, Katie Roberts clocked in at 2:04.36, finishing first while Laura Pomeroy and Petra Klosova finished first and second in the 50 yard freestyle. Pomeroy had a time of 23.46 and Klosova had a time of 23.56.

The SMU divers had a strong showing as Kristin Schild placed first with a score of 276.45 and Christina Hussong placed second with a score of 267.08, both in the one-meter diving event. In the three-meter diving event, Hussong placed first with a score of 263.25 and Mara Morhouse was second with a score of 196.50.

Klosova and Leane Darling finished first and second in the 100 yard freestyle with times of 50.36 and 51.23, respectively. Anja Carmen added another first-place finish as she clocked in at 2:00.19 in the 200 yard backstroke. Basel and Sambrailo competed in the 200 yard breaststroke. Basel finished first with a time of 2:19.07 and Sambrailo finished second with a time of 2:21.82.

In the 500 yard freestyle, Rigamonti took her second first-place finish of the day with a time of 4:52.41. Carmen also received her second first-place finish of the day with a time of 4:23.32 in the 400 yard IM. Basel claimed second in 400 yard IM with a time of 4:26.86.
