The Eastern Michigan Eagles will add a junior national qualifier to the men’s swimming squad next fall, as Tanner Olmos has made a verbal commitment to attend the university in 2016.
“I decided on Eastern Michigan because the program felt like the perfect fit,” Olmos said. “The team offered a positive environment that I can see myself thriving in, along with championship expectations that I know will push me to be the best I can be.”
Olmos, a member of the Clovis Swim Club in northern California, will add depth to Eastern Michigan’s distance freestyle program. He holds a lifetime best 4:31.00 in the 500 free from last May’s California Central Section high school championships, and a best time of 15:42.82 in the 1650 free from the Speedo sectionals last March. Both times qualified him to swim at junior nationals this summer, where he swam a lifetime best 16:14.39 in the 1500-meter freestyle to place in the top 40.
Buchanan participated in the inaugural California state high school championship, placing 13th in the 500 free with a 4:35.10.

Congratulations Eastern Michigan!
