NEW COMMIT: Chevy Chase, Md. native Will Tenpas has declared his commitment to Duke University and will join the Blue Devils this fall.

Tenpas swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club under head coach Tim Kelly and owns the Winter Juniors cut in both breaststroke events. He most recently competed at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Knoxville where he finaled in the 100m and 200m breast after achieving 100% lifetime bests at the Tom Dolan Invite. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American raced the 200 breast at Winter Nationals and capped off his summer season with a seventh-place finish in that event at NCSAs. Also competing for Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, Tenpas placed sixth in the 100 breast and ninth in the 200 IM as a junior at the Maryland 3A/4A State Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 58.00
  • 200 breast – 2:05.10
  • 200 IM – 1:57.66
  • 400 IM – 4:07.64

When he arrives in Durham as a member of the class of 2023, Tenpas will add his talents to a breaststroke group that’ll include Adam Zimmer and Henry Wu. Although he’s not quite in scoring range just yet at the ACC Championships, he has made continuous improvements over the past two seasons, shaving off three seconds from his 100 breast and four off his 200.
