Drury Swimmer Wen “Ariel” Xu Dies During Practice

Drury senior Wen “Ariel” Xu suffered a medical emergency during practice Thursday afternoon and died shortly thereafter, according to a report from Ozark Sports Zone.

Tthe report states that the team contacted paramedics immediately, and Xu was taken to Mercy Hospital. Shortly after she arrived, she was pronounced dead.

“This is a terrible tragedy, and we ask that the community keep our students and Ariel’s family in their thoughts and prayers. Our condolences are with Ariel’s family, and with her teammates and coaches,” Drury President Dr. Tim Cloyd said, according to Ozark Sports Zone.

Xu was the Division II NCAA champion in the 50 free and the runner-up in the 100 free last season. According to her official Drury Athletics bio, Xu was a native of Shanghai, China, and was majoring in Public Relations and Advertising.
