NEW COMMIT: Drexel University has gained a new commitment from Bethlehem, Penn. native Alasdair Bell who will join the Dragons as a member of the class of 2023.
Bell does his club swimming with Emmaus Aquatic Club and owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 100 fly. He raced three events at Juniors East earlier this month and achieved a best time in the 200 IM. He posted a pair of top-5 finishes at Eastern Zone Seniors and earned six lifetime bests at Middle Atlantic Seniors this past summer. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American has also represented Freedom High School at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships and won the 200 free at Districts during his junior season.
He told Swimming World:
“Happy to announce that I will be furthering my academic and athletic careers at Drexel University! I chose Drexel for the amazing academic opportunities that it has to offer as well as the awesome team and coaches! I can’t wait to be a Dragon!!”
His best times include:
- 100 fly – 50.93
- 50 free – 21.37
- 100 free – 46.90
- 200 free – 1:43.97
When he arrives on campus in the fall of 2019, Bell will join a freestyle group that includes Alex Flynn and Efstathios Malamas as well as a fly squad led by Paris Raptis. Although he sits just outside of scoring range at the CAA Championships, he has made significant improvements over the past two seasons: knocking off three seconds from his 100 free, nine from his 200 free and four from his 100 fly.
