Doubles Within Reach at Junior Nationals West After Prelims

The final day of the 2017 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships — West opened with a fast start in Saturday morning’s preliminaries.

Katharine Berkhoff of Missoula Aquatic took the top seed in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:54.05. Lucie Nordmann of Magnolia Aquatic was one hundredth of a second behind at 1:54.06, setting up what could be an exciting finish in Saturday night’s final.

Filling out the top eighth were Rhyan White (1:54.82), Audrey Reimer (1:55.52), Bayley Stewart (1:56.41), Kylee Alons (1:56.61), Isabelle Stadden (1:57.11) and Danielle Carter (1:57.31).

In the men’s 200 back, Ethan Harder of Billings Aquatic took the top seed at 1:44.69. Spencer Walker was second (1:45.32), followed by Peter Larson (1:45.92), Nicholas Vance (1:46.13), Noah Henry (1:46.29), Harrison Lierz (1:46.83), Benjamin Patton (1:47.10) and Jason Park (1:47.31).

Nordmann took the top seed in the 100 free (48.84) as she tries to win a double on Saturday night. The second seed went to Julia Cook of Aggie Swim Club (49.22), followed by Amalie Fackenthal (49.26), Alexandra Crisera (49.41), Anicka Delgado (49.67), Coleen Gillilan (49.81), Kylee Alons (48.88), Ayla Spitz (49.99) and Pyper Doo (49.99).

Lillie Nordmann took the top seed in the 200 butterfly in 1:56.97. Ruby Martin was second (1:57.27), followed by Zephanie Koh (1:57.54), Gillilan (1:57.64), Dakota Luther (1:57.73), Luciana Thomas (1:57.84), Halladay Kinsey (1:57.84) and Emma Sticklen (1:58.26).

In the men’s 100 free, Daniel Krueger from McFarland Sparta took the top seed in 43.35. Danny Kovac was second (44.58), followed by Kyle Leach (44.65), Kevin Callan (44.77), Kaloyan Bratanov (44.86), Cooper Deryk (44.91), Andrew Trepanier (44.91) and William Bresette (44.94).

Ananias Puch of Team Rebel took the top seed in the men’s 200 breaststroke at 1:56.88, followed by teammates Zane Backes (1:57.89). Ethan Dang was third (1:58.52), followed by Daniel Roy (1:58.85), Ben Dillard (1:59.92), Michael Rudd (2:00.03), Forrest Frazier (2:00.03) and Bratanov (2:00.32).

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, Zoe Bartel of Fort Collins took the top seed in 2:09.97. Zoie Hartman of Crow Canyon was second at 2:10.50, followed by Vanessa Pearl (2:12.64), Gillian Davey (2:12.64), Isabelle Odgers (2:13.12), Valerie Tarazi (2:13.35), Emma Garfield (2:13.64) and Hanna Newby (2:14.35).

In the men’s 200 butterfly, Jack Levant took the top seed in 1:45.52, followed by Benjamin Miller (1:46.45), Gianluca Urlando (1:46.77), Seth Hendrix (1:46.79), Andrew Koustik (1:47.16), Aaron Pang (1:48.02), James Torrez (1:48.03) and Logan Davis (1:48.19).
