NEW COMMIT: Sunnyside, N.Y. native Orla Egan has announced her verbal commitment to Duquesne University and will join Haley Scholer and Hayley Taylor in Pittsburgh as a member of the class of 2025.

A talented distance freestyler, Egan does her club swimming with Laguardia Aquatic Club and owns three Junior National standards. She had four top-12 finishes at Metropolitan LCM Seniors this past summer before going on to win the 200m/400m/800m free combo at Eastern Zone Seniors.

A current junior at Mary Louis Academy, Egan is a six-time New York Federation Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished sixth in the 200 free and ninth in the 500 free in 2019 after taking seventh and fourth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Duquesne University!! Thank you to my family, coaches, friends and teammates for their support throughout this process!! GO DUKES!!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:50.24
  • 500 free – 4:53.46
  • 1000 free – 10:02.83
  • 1650 free – 16:36.95

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Dukes, Egan will make an immediate impact. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 free and 500 free at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championships while her best time in the mile would’ve won the event by four seconds.
