Distance Ace Mike McCarthy Verbals to the Vols for 2025

NEW COMMIT: The University of Tennessee has secured a new verbal commitment for Fall 2025 from Junior National qualifier Mike McCarthy of Swedesboro, New Jersey.

He will join Jake McCoy in Knoxville as a member of the Vols’ Class of 2029.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m so thankful to announce my commitment to the University of Tennessee to further my academic and swimming career. I would like to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for getting me to where I am now. Excited for what’s to come! GO VOLS🍊!”

McCarthy does his club swimming with Jersey Wahoos and placed 13th in the mile at Juniors East last month. Last summer, he earned silver in the 800m free and bronze in both the 400m free and 1500m free at Middle Atlantic Seniors before going on to compete at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

500 free – 4:30.17
1000 free – 9:14.03
1650 free – 15:18.98
200 IM – 2:00.28
400 IM – 4:07.08

Currently a junior at St. Augustine Prep, McCarthy placed fifth in the 500 free and 13th in the 200 free at the 2023 New Jersey Meet of Champions. He earned bronze in the 500 free during his freshman season.

His mile time is already NCAA B-cut worthy.
