DC Trident Adds Tommy Cope, Leah Gingrich to Roster

The DC Trident have added Tommy Cope and and Leah Gingrich to its roster for the upcoming International Swimming League (ISL) season.

The Trident, like other ISL teams with Australians on their roster have been forced to fill those spots after Swimming Australia blocked most of the country’s athletes from making the trip to Budapest for the season.

The Trident lost Australian stars Leiston Pickett and Tristan Hollard from their roster.

Cope has starred at the University of Michigan, while Gingrich starred at Texas.

• NCAA Championships (March 25-28): Canceled due to COVID-19; had received invite in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM.
• Big Ten Championships (Feb. 26- 29): Finished 1st in the 200-yard Breaststroke (1:51.44), 3rd in the 200-yard IM (1:42.77), and 3rd in the 400-yard IM (3:42.80).
• Michigan State (Jan. 31): Finished 1st in the 400-yard IM (3:48.38) and 1st in the 100-yard Butterfly (48.82).
• Ohio State (Jan. 18): Finished 1st in the 100-yard Breaststroke (53.12) and 1st in the 200-yard Breaststroke (1:54.87).
• Indiana (Jan. 11): Finished 1st in the 100-yard Breaststroke (53.28), 1st in the 200-yard Breaststroke (1:56.34), and 1st in the 200-yard IM (1:45.61).
• Minnesota Invite (Dec. 4-7): Finished 4th in the 400-yard IM (3:43.05), 5th in the 200-yard Breaststroke (1:52.31), 5th in the 200-yard IM (1:43.26) and 6th in the 100-yard Breaststroke (52.54).

DC Trident: Leah Gingrich’s senior highlights at Texas:

• Competed at the NCAA Championships in the 200 butterfly (21st, 1:57.15), 400 IM (39th, 4:21.26) and 500 freestyle (56th, 4:51.84)
• Won the Big 12 Championship in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:04.09
• Finished sixth in the 1,650 freestyle (16:46.27), seventh in the 500freestyle (4:49.70) and eighth in the 200 butterfly (2:02.50) at the Big 12 Championships
• Won the 200 butterfly four times, including the SMU Classic (1:59.60) and dual meets against Texas A&M (1:57.75), Georgia (1:59.63) and Arizona (1:59.19)
• Earned three first place finishes against Michigan/Indiana in the 200 freestyle (1:48.34), 400 IM (4:17.27) and 500 freestyle (4:46.22)
• Took home first place finishes against Texas A&M in the 500 freestyle (4:45.42) and 1,000 freestyle (9:42.38) as well as the 200 butterfly
• Also was second in the 500 freestyle at the SMU Classic and versus Auburn
• Recorded a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.45
• Swam the second leg of the winning 800 freestyle relay at the SMU Classic (7:16.74) and third place finish at the Texas Invitational (7:09.38)
• Finished third in the 200 medley relay against SMU (1:47.26) and was fourth in the 400 medley relay against Michigan/Indiana (3:47.87) and Auburn (3:45.00)
