Dates Set for 2003 U.S. Junior Nationals

PHOENIX, October 30. COACH Bob Gillett, President of the National Club Swimming Association (NCSA), announced today that an agreement has been signed for the site of the 2003 NCSA Junior National Swimming Championships.

The Junior Nationals will be held, April 7-11, 2003. The meet is for all 18 and under swimmers in the United States who achieve the qualifying standards.

The site is the YWCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, FL. The host club will be the Y Team Orlando. Coach Chris Jaffe, of YTO, will head up the meet staging for the Florida team.

Gillett said, “
"We took an extensive e-mail survey of club coaches from all over the US last year. We asked them where they wanted to have this meet and one of the top choices was Orlando. So we are extremely excited to have been able to give them Orlando.

"The Junior National Swimming Championships in Orlando will give the coaches and swimmers great incentive to have a big fall and winter of training, followed by a great peak meet in a super fun place."

The NCSA has scheduled the competition on Monday through Friday. This will allow all the coaches and swimmers an extra day, Saturday, to visit some of the great attractions in the Orlando area (Universal Studios and Disney World) before returning home on Sunday.

Gillett said: "We will now turn our attention to developing and promoting the meet. We hope to make it a selection meet for an All-Star Team that will compete later in the year, possibly against another international All-Star Team. We almost had it worked out with Canada last year. Hopefully this year we can gain the confidence of a National Title Sponsor and provide a great experience for a lot of swimmers, coaches and their club programs!"
