Date of Golden Goggles Awards Pushed Back; USA Swimming to Honor America’s Best

Although a formal announcement has not been made, the Golden Goggles have been moved back on the calendar, with December 7 the date of the annual gala event. The awards banquet of USA Swimming was originally scheduled for November 22, but the website of the event shows a change to two weeks later.

For the first time, the Golden Goggles will be held in Miami, after its previous editions were held in New York and Los Angeles. The event will honor the best athletes in the sport from the United States, with the recent Olympic Games in Tokyo figuring heavily into who will win awards. The Faena Hotel is slated to be the host venue.

Among those who will figure prominently are Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky, who each won multiple gold medals at the Tokyo Games. Dressel was a five-time champion, including individual victories in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. The fly was won in world-record time. As for Ledecky, she captured her third straight Olympic title in the 800 freestyle, won the inaugural 1500 freestyle for women and was the silver medalist in the 400 freestyle.

Lydia Jacoby, who won gold in the 100 breaststroke, is a leading contender for Breakout Performer, while the men’s 400 medley relay, which set a world record on the final morning of action, is the favorite for Best Relay Performance.

Expect USA Swimming to reveal nominees in a variety of categories in the coming weeks. To visit the website of the Golden Goggles, click here.
