Danish Long Course Championships: 400 Freestyles Provide Highlights
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, April 1. MADS Glaesner provided the highlight of day two at the Danish long course championships.
Glaesner won the 400 freestyle in 3:49.12, which is the seventh-fastest swim of the year. He finished well ahead of Anders Lie, who was second in 3:56.40. Third place went to Francis Johannessen with a 3:59.95.
Lotte Friis took the women's 400 freestyle in dominating fashion, winning with a time of 4:10.50. Second went to Amalie Thomsen with a 4:21.22, and third place went to Randi Nielsen in 4:23.28.
Andreas Schiellerup took the men's 50 backstroke final in 27.13 after posting a 27.42 to lead qualifiers after the semifinal round, which started today's session. Second place in the final was Martin Nilsson with a 27.70, and rounding out the podium was Mads Rasmussen with a 27.88.
Ida Lindborg won the women's 50 backstroke in 29.47 after posting a 29.32 earlier in the session in the semifinal. The silver medal in the final went to Cecile Hansen with a time of 30.31, and Josefin Eriksson was third with a 30.78.
Viktor Bromer won the men's 200 IM with a 2:06.02. Erik Persson was second in 2:07.99 and Martin Mathiesen was third with a 2:09.08.
Katrine Sorensen won the women's 200 IM in 2:17.30, while Julie Leth-Espensen took second in 2:21.90 over Celine Bertrand's third-place time of 2:21.94.
In other semifinal action, Jacob Andkjaer posted the fastest 100 freestyle with a 49.77, with Daniel Skaaning (51.20) and Frederik Pedersen (51.71) placing in the top three.
The fastest time in the women's 100 free semifinal belonged to Jeanette Ottesen with a time of 55.25. Mie Nielsen posted the second-place time of 56.40, while Pernille Blume placed third with a 56.85.
Rikke Pedersen will be the class of the field in tomorrow's women's 100 breast final, topping qualifiers with a 1:07.64. Cecile Holten was second with a 1:11.95 and Josephina Bartela took third with a 1:12.33.
Emil Klingberg topped qualifiers in the men's 100 breast with a 1:03.78. Second and third went to Chris Christensen (1:04.09) and John Karki (1:06.32).
