Danielle Valley Named B1G Swimmer of the Week
By Andy Ross, Swimming World College Intern
Two Wisconsin swimmers and a Rutgers diver won the weekly Big Ten honors for their efforts last week. Danielle Valley, a junior, won the 500 (4:44.81) and 1000 (9:43.37) against Southern California on Tuesday. Both of those times are NCAA B cuts. This is Valley’s first swimmer of the week honor in the Big Ten and the first Wisconsin woman to get the accolade since Chase Kinney in October.
Valley’s teammate Jess Unicomb won the freshman of the week honor for her two second place finishes in the 100 butterfly (55.36) and 200 backstroke (1:58.44) and third place in the 100 backstroke (55.11) against USC. This is Unicomb’s third freshman of the week award as she won it December 9 and October 21. The freshman from Australia is extremely talented and can score in the Big Ten in a variety of events. It is unsure what events she will be swimming in Ann Arbor right now, but she is definitely one to look out for in any event.
Rutgers sophomore Addison Walkowiak won the diver of the week for her winning performance in the 1m against Miami and Kansas over the weekend. The New York native also finished second in the 3m event in the meet. Both of her scores qualify her for the NCAA Zone meet in Annapolis, MD. This is her second career diver of the week honor with the other one coming on November 11.

Congrats to these fine swimmers. Why are there no times listed in this article? I’d expect that from my local paper, but not Swimming World!!!
Times have been updated! Thank you for pointing that out.
