CSTE’s David Abrahams Sets American Record in Men’s SB-13 100 Breaststroke

David Abrahams set an American Para Swimming record in the SB-13 100-meter breaststroke this week at the Para Swimming World Series.

Abrahams went 1:04.14 in prelims to break the record, then sped up in finals to go 1:04.07. The world record for SB13 was set in 2013 by Oleksii Fedyna at 1:03.58.

Abrahams is a sophomore at Harvard. He was added to the elite athlete list in March as a visually impaired athlete. A native of Havertown, Pennsylvania, Abrahams is training at Coronado Swim Association-Team Elite’s College Contingency Team in San Diego after Harvard’s 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abrahams will be vying for his first major meet as a para swimmer at the Paralympic Trials.

“We are very proud of all the hard work Abrahams has displayed during his time here in Coronado” Team Elite Head Coach and CSTE’s Program Director Dave Marsh said in a press release. “Abrahams has done a tremendous job staying focused, he’s been making minor stroke adjustments that will pay dividends for him in June. We are excited to watch him race at the Para Olympic Trials.”

“We are thrilled to watch the hard work and dedication of David materialize into such an amazing accomplishment, I cannot wait to see what he does at Paralympic Trials and potentially for Team USA in Tokyo,” CSTE President Peter McVey said.
