Conor Dwyer Dashes to 200 Freestyle Top Seed in Omaha

Conor Dwyer entered with the world’s third best time this year of 1:45.41. This morning he swam a 1:46.66 to take the top seed.

Jack Conger posted a 1:47.25 to return to tonight’s semifinals in second.

Texas’ Clark Smith won the first circle seeded heat with a strong back half. He stopped the clock in 1:47.68, good for the third seed. His teammate and 2016 NCAA Champion in the yards edition of this event, Townley Haas swam a 1:47.74 for fourth.

Battling a groin injury suffered yesterday, Ryan Lochte posted a 1:47.77 for fifth. Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz was a 1:47.86 good for sixth.

Blake Pieroni will return seventh with his 1:47.93.

After scratching last night’s 400 IM, Tyler Clary earned the eighth seed from lane 0. He touched in 1:48.11 this morning.

Reed Malone (1:48.24), Michael Weiss (1:48.28), Zane Grothe (1:48.29), Michael Wynalda (1:48.30) and Michael Klueh (1:48.48) finished ninth through 13th.

Junior world record holder Maxime Roney made a statement in the first 100 of the circle seeded heat, but faded to sixth in his heat with a 1:48.57, over a second from his 1:47.10 record. He will get a second swim in 14th.

After qualifying for Rio in the 400 freestyle last night, Connor Jaeger swam a 1:48.59 for 15th. Jonathan Roberts rounds out tonight’s semifinals in 1:48.63.
